Hello world, I’m Pratistha Devkota, 19, an aspiring aviator and a commercial pilot graduate. I’m a simple girl from humble beginnings who’s curious about trying new things and being exposed to multiple things like pageants, sports, scripting, singing, and many more. I’m also a former member of Nepal Peace Scouts and 1st Dan in Taekwondo. Born and brought up in Nepal, I have experienced a patriarchal society and the dim status of females in it beyond potential.
Global Orphan Prevention is a non-profit organization that is dedicated to preventing child abandonment and orphanage proliferation globally. The organization was established in 2011 and aims to ensure that every child grows up in a loving, safe, and nurturing family environment. The organization's approach focuses on providing families with the resources and support they need to care for their children.
Child trafficking is a global issue that has become a significant threat to the safety, well-being, and future of millions of children worldwide. According to the United Nations, at least 1.2 million children are trafficked every year, and this number continues to grow. Child trafficking involves the recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring, or receipt of children for exploitation. This exploitation can take many forms, including forced labor, sexual exploitation, and forced marriage. While the problem of child trafficking is complex, there are ways to prevent it, and one of the most effective ways is through education, leadership, and economic development.
As a parent, you want your child to succeed in life and to grow up to be a confident, capable adult. One way to help your child achieve these goals is to empower them. Parents need to empower their children because it helps them to develop a sense of self-worth, confidence, and resilience. When children feel empowered, they are more likely to take risks, try new things, and overcome challenges. This can help them to develop important life skills and to achieve their goals.
Parents care about their children's safety because it is a fundamental part of their role as caregivers and because they love their children. The bond between parents and their children is one of the strongest and most meaningful relationships that exists in human society which is why they feel a strong sense of duty to provide for and protect their children. This is why teaching children about the dangers of human trafficking is a vital component towards their overall safety awareness.
Powerful girls grow up feeling secure in themselves. They learn to take action, making positive choices about their own lives and doing positive things for others. They think critically about the world around them. They express their feelings and acknowledge the feelings and thoughts of others in caring ways. Powerful girls feel good about themselves and grow up with a “can-do” attitude. Of course, strong girls may (like all of us) have times of insecurity and self-doubt, but these feelings aren’t paralyzing because the girls have learned to work through their problems. Powerful girls will grow up to lead full, valuable lives.
Workers have completed the excavation and retaining wall, and are now preparing the foundation. This process takes a long time due to treacherous terrain and being in one of the largest earthquake-prone environments of the world. Careful architectural design and engineering are necessary and this phase should not be rushed. ⁣⁣⁣⁣
GHYANGPHEDI, NEPAL -- What has been a four year dream in the making has finally come into fruition. We are happy to report that construction has finally begun on our Girls Empowerment Center & Dormitory in Ghyangphedi, in the Nuwakot District of Nepal.  After the devastating 2015 Nepal earthquakes, Global Orphan Prevention founder Katie Hilborn and her team stumbled upon a village with an inordinate number of "missing girls" while delivering disaster aid.
Our inaugural fundraising gala for Global Orphan Prevention was a smashing success! The number of high-level humans under one roof with a single purpose to create change was incredible. Thank you all so much for joining us on our journey. The energy and love about the room on Saturday night created such a buzz, and it's all because of you.
With your help and generosity during our GlobalGiving Crowdfunding Campaign, we were able to complete Phase I  (assessment and land transfer) for our Girl's Empowerment Center & Dormitory in Fall 2018, and now we are working to raise the remaining funds to complete Phase II.
The conclusion to the Leychang Birthing Center Mission. The team finally arrive to the remote mountain village of Leychang Nepal after a stressful 8-hour journey through monsoon on unforgiving road. Episode 2 explores the earthquake destruction, and find the health post in rubble. The team then build a semi-permanent shelter and conduct labor and delivery training.
Global Orphan Prevention have teamed up with two organizations and undertaken the mission of rebuilding birthing centers in remote and rugged locations in North-Central Nepal after two major earthquakes. The most significant damage in this country occurred in areas directly to the northeast and -west of the capital of Kathmandu, stretching to the Chinese border. Countless villages across steep mountain ranges that hug the Himalaya have experienced total destruction of labor and delivery facilities.
